Christian Education
The Christian Education programs of The First Presbyterian Church of Chester are overseen by the Spiritual Life Committee to ensure that our main focus is on the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Sunday School
Our Sunday School runs from the first Sunday after public school begins to mid-June. The program is set up to cover preschool up to twelfth grade and includes the opportunity for members of the confirmation class to still participate. We are supervised by the Spiritual Life Committee and have a free flowing spiritual relationship with the committee to give the best education we can to the children.
Classes are set up into grade groups based on the number of students and how best to place them by their abilities. This gives a well rounded learning experience and helps to keep the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ on their level. Our Sunday begins with worship in the sanctuary. After "Children's Time" we go into the Sunday School area and have our children's worship. The children learn to participate in a regular service by praying and saying the Gloria Patri, the Doxology and by sharing their own Joys and Concerns. We have equal time for lessons, crafts, and music. So that our children and parents may worship together, the Sunday School is not in session on Communion Sundays.
Vacation Bible School
Each summer we sponsor a week long Vacation Bible School in cooperation with other churches in the community. Our VBS program is open to children age 3 through 6th grade children from all denominations and focuses on our Lord Jesus Christ with lesson times, craft, music, snack, recreation, daily worship, and an ending celebration with the parents.
Youth Group
The youth group is made up of children from our congregation and other denominations from 7th grade to 12th grade. They gather to learn about the love we share through our Lord Jesus Christ and show this love by doing mission projects and participating in worship, fellowship, and fun activities. The young adults in youth group are shown the path to follow into adulthood that Christ wants us to follow.
Bible Study
Adults meet for bible study at various times throughout the year.
